Academic Growth ClassAcademic growth is designed to develop, strengthen, and improve skills for positive academic performance and achievement. Through content area course work, pre and post teaching, cognitive learning strategies are taught which focus on comprehension and memory skills, test taking, organizational skills and the enhancements of written expression. Self-advocacy skills and transitional planning are also part of the instructional program. Students’ progress is monitored and reviewed throughout the trimester. Academic Growth is not a study hall.

Senior Transition Seminar ClassThis course is designed to assist students in the transition to college. This course will focus on practical tips and strategies that will help students succeed - and ways to create a positive mind shift. Emphasis will be on development of self-efficacy, attitude, understanding motivation, taking personal responsibility, goal setting, study habits, time and stress management. Students will have opportunities to process and apply information to their academic and personal lives. Students will be engaged in active and collaborative learning through a variety of instructional experiences, including discussions with reading, speaking, writing and listening assignments. The course will require the creation of a person centered plan which will introduce various aspects of student development, including an awareness of personal learning styles and career options, and will foster the creation of helpful learning strategies to apply to college and personal life. Students will become familiar with college policies and procedures and will complete career related learning experiences that focus on college transition.

PrerequisiteMust be a senior graduating this school year and have a current I.E.P. and IEP team placement recommendation. Text On Course: Strategies for Creating Success in College and Life. Class materials/worksheets will be provided in class. |
